It’s that time; Senior Portrait time. The thought of standing in front of the camera, all eyes on you may be daunting. Nonetheless, it has to be done and the thought of how you’re going down in high school history may leave you feeling overwhelmed. That is why I wanted to create a list for you to help you relax and prepare for your time to shine.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail
As my high school algebra teacher used to say, “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail”. Boy was he right! If you want to feel confident in front of the camera, first make sure to prepare in advance. Get your outfits ready (I suggest at least two outfits for variety). Don’t just pick them out, try them on, Make sure you love everything about them before showing up on picture day. What about your hair? Will you wear makeup? Make sure you have the details ironed out. This will help ease anxiety and boost your confidence. If you want hair and make-up ask me about teaming up with my stylist!
Do not re-write the book
Didn’t anyone ever tell you you’re perfect just the way you are?? One thing I often see is someone who’s so nervous about how they want to be remembered, they decide to totally transform their identity in the process. Don’t do it! Wear something that feels like “YOU” if you want your photos to come out right. There’s nothing wrong with buying a new outfit of making sure your hair is done, but when doing so, make sure you don’t feel like a stranger. The most attractive thing is confidence and the best way to have that come out through your photos is for you to feel comfortable.
Strength in numbers
Everyone feels better when they’re surrounded by people they trust. Maybe standing in front of a photographer you’ve never met is intimidating. If it is, why not bring a friend or a parent or BOTH! Don’t be afraid to bring someone who will make you laugh and make the process more like a fun experience. And why not take some photos with your best friend too? Ask about my best friend experience package.
Don’t be shy
I know, I know, easier said than done. But if you need a pivotal moment to break out of your shell, nows the time. “You’ll miss out if you don’t speak up” my mom used to always say. Well, she was right. I want your photo session to be ALL ABOUT YOU. Have an idea for a pose you like? I want to know! Don’t like the location I suggest? Tell me! If you’re really shy, take the time in advance to find out what you want from your photos, write a list, and email me. Let’s make your session perfect…for YOU.
How do you want to be remembered?
Here’s where you really need to think. How do you want your friends, classmates, and future family to see you when they look back through these photos? Are you the team captain of the football team? Drama club member? Class clown? Quiet observer? Do some soul searching, write a list of your favorite personality traits and connect with yourself. Bring some props if you’d like and a WHOLE LOT of personality!
