A warm, welcoming, enchanting wedding <3
Read MoreThe Twins
Molly and Giana, commonly referred to around here as “The Twins” are such an amazing pair. They are friends of my daughter’s and were once tiny little daisies in my girl scout troop. While these two are twins, they couldn’t be more contrasting in appearance and personality. Molly (with red hair) is a live wire. She is full of fun and spunk and big personality. Gianna (with sparkly brown eyes) is sweet and always looking for ways she can help others. Both of these girls are a pleasure to know and while they are so different, they also have something as twin sisters that brings them together. I want to thank their mother Laurie for allowing her girls to be a part of my creative vision. Also a big thank you to the girls, for sitting through my excited direction and photography antics.
Choosing outfits for your photo session
Start with an outfit that inspires you
Just like when you decorate your home, you want to start with a beginning focal piece that you LOVE and adore. When it comes to choosing coordinating outfits for your photo session I recommend the same thing. I also want to suggest starting with your outfit as this will probably be the outfit you are putting the most consideration into. Find something trueley flattering on you that makes you feel pretty. Make sure to do some quick research to find out what type of silhouette is flattering for your figure.
Here is a great blog I found to help with this: https://thestylescribe.com/2019/08/07/dressing-your-body-type-flattering-tips-silhouettes/
Choose a color pallet around your inspiration piece
Pinterest is a great place to start when searching for color pallet inspiration. Use your inspiration piece to search for a pallet that includes that color. Is your focal outfit mustard? neutral? Beige? Find a color theme that works well with the outfit you love and choose your family photo or couple portrait’s color theme based around this. *Remember, coordinating your colors is not the same as matching. Use colors that work well together, but that are not too matchy.
Consider your home decor
This may seem like a strange concept, but you need to consider where you will be hanging your family photos or couple portraits and make sure your photos will coordinate with your home. Is your home mostly neutrals? Light and airy? deep and dramatic? Bright and fun?
Let the season inspire you
When are you taking your photos? If you’re taking your photos in fall, you may want to coordinate to the season. Try deep, warm colors That work well with fall colors. Summer beach photos? Try light and airy.
Use limited patterns
A good outfit with pattern can be beautiful in a coordinating scheme, but don’t over do it. If you choose pattern, stick to using it in one outfit. Too much pattern can be overwhelming and take away from the photo. Try using textures and layers instead to add interest to your outfit.
Build up and layer
Lay your outfits out together one piece at a time. Start with your inspiration piece, then add the next outfit and so on. Look at them as a group. Are the colors and patterns working together? Once you feel confident with your outfits, start to add layers and accessories. Try to imagine how they accessories can be used like props. Babies love playing with Mommy’s necklaces, a wide brimmed hat can make for cute element for couples shots.
Don’t forget to ask your photographer for help. Once you think you’re happy with what you have, take a photo and send it to your photographer. Not only can they help give tips, knowing what your outfits look like will help your photographer mentally stylize the rest of your shoot!
5 Tips to prepare you for your Senior Session
It’s that time; Senior Portrait time. The thought of standing in front of the camera, all eyes on you may be daunting. Nonetheless, it has to be done and the thought of how you’re going down in high school history may leave you feeling overwhelmed. That is why I wanted to create a list for you to help you relax and prepare for your time to shine.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail
As my high school algebra teacher used to say, “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail”. Boy was he right! If you want to feel confident in front of the camera, first make sure to prepare in advance. Get your outfits ready (I suggest at least two outfits for variety). Don’t just pick them out, try them on, Make sure you love everything about them before showing up on picture day. What about your hair? Will you wear makeup? Make sure you have the details ironed out. This will help ease anxiety and boost your confidence. If you want hair and make-up ask me about teaming up with my stylist!
Do not re-write the book
Didn’t anyone ever tell you you’re perfect just the way you are?? One thing I often see is someone who’s so nervous about how they want to be remembered, they decide to totally transform their identity in the process. Don’t do it! Wear something that feels like “YOU” if you want your photos to come out right. There’s nothing wrong with buying a new outfit of making sure your hair is done, but when doing so, make sure you don’t feel like a stranger. The most attractive thing is confidence and the best way to have that come out through your photos is for you to feel comfortable.
Strength in numbers
Everyone feels better when they’re surrounded by people they trust. Maybe standing in front of a photographer you’ve never met is intimidating. If it is, why not bring a friend or a parent or BOTH! Don’t be afraid to bring someone who will make you laugh and make the process more like a fun experience. And why not take some photos with your best friend too? Ask about my best friend experience package.
Don’t be shy
I know, I know, easier said than done. But if you need a pivotal moment to break out of your shell, nows the time. “You’ll miss out if you don’t speak up” my mom used to always say. Well, she was right. I want your photo session to be ALL ABOUT YOU. Have an idea for a pose you like? I want to know! Don’t like the location I suggest? Tell me! If you’re really shy, take the time in advance to find out what you want from your photos, write a list, and email me. Let’s make your session perfect…for YOU.
How do you want to be remembered?
Here’s where you really need to think. How do you want your friends, classmates, and future family to see you when they look back through these photos? Are you the team captain of the football team? Drama club member? Class clown? Quiet observer? Do some soul searching, write a list of your favorite personality traits and connect with yourself. Bring some props if you’d like and a WHOLE LOT of personality!
